Position Overview

The Telehealth Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) delivers high-quality, patient-centered virtual behavioral health care to members across diverse populations. The PMHNP is responsible for psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, psychopharmacologic management, behavioral health screening, patient education, and coordination of care with primary care, behavioral health, and community resources. A key component of this role includes timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation to support continuity of care, quality measurement, risk adjustment when applicable, and organizational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Psychiatric Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Conduct comprehensive virtual psychiatric evaluations, including psychiatric history, mental status examination, diagnostic assessment, and ongoing follow-up.
• Diagnose and manage common psychiatric and behavioral health conditions using evidence-based standards of care and individualized treatment plans.
• Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications within scope of practice, including evaluation of effectiveness, adverse effects, contraindications, interactions, and required monitoring.
• Use validated behavioral health screening and assessment tools, as clinically appropriate, to support diagnosis, treatment planning, symptom monitoring, and risk assessment.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, adherence, coping strategies, follow-up needs, and indications for a higher level of care.

Safety & Crisis Management

• Assess suicide, self-harm, violence, psychosis, substance-related risk, and other behavioral health safety concerns using clinically appropriate assessment methods and validated tools when indicated.
• Develop and document safety plans when clinically appropriate and provide clear crisis, emergency, and follow-up instructions to members and caregivers.
• Recognize when a member requires urgent in-person evaluation, emergency services, higher level of behavioral health care, or immediate escalation, and initiate organizational emergency and safety procedures as indicated.
• Escalate complex, high-risk, treatment-resistant, diagnostically uncertain, or out-of-scope presentations to collaborating physicians, psychiatrists, emergency services, or other appropriate clinical resources.

Collaboration & Care Coordination

• Collaborate with physicians, primary care providers, therapists, pharmacists, case managers, utilization management, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and continuous care.
• Participate in interdisciplinary case review and care planning for members with complex behavioral health, medical, psychosocial, or medication-management needs.
• Support integration of behavioral health telehealth services into population health, care management, quality improvement, and member engagement programs.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of all patient encounters in accordance with organizational requirements and applicable NCQA, CMS, state, and professional standards.
• Document diagnoses and clinical complexity accurately using appropriate ICD-10-CM coding and supporting clinical documentation.
• Identify and document applicable behavioral health quality opportunities, including medication adherence, follow-up after acute behavioral health care, depression screening and follow-up, substance use treatment, and other plan-specific quality measures.
• Adhere to telehealth best practices, HIPAA privacy and security requirements, prescribing requirements, scope-of-practice rules, collaborative or supervisory requirements when applicable, and all applicable federal and state regulations.

Qualifications

Required:

• Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
• Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner/APRN license with psychiatric practice authority in Ohio and Arizona. Additional state licenses may be required based on business needs.
• Current national board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
• Minimum 3 years of clinical experience as a PMHNP providing psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management; telehealth experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric care, psychopharmacology, suicide and safety risk assessment, and behavioral health quality measures.
• Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and telehealth platforms.
• Reliable internet connection and private workspace.

Preferred:

• Experience in managed care, integrated behavioral health, population health, community mental health, or integrated delivery systems.
• Familiarity with NCQA standards, behavioral health quality measures, and quality improvement programs.
• Experience managing co-occurring psychiatric, substance use, and medical conditions in a virtual or integrated care setting.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary range: $125,000- $145,000 (commensurate with experience, location and certifications)
