Arizona Summer Heat Safety

Arizonans are no strangers to the heat, but this summer is different.

El Niño years can bring long stretches of dangerously hot weather, when temperatures climb above 105°F during the day and don’t cool down much overnight.

Easy Ways to Beat the Heat

Smart choices throughout the day can keep you healthy and hydrated.

Hydrate Before You're Thirsty

Sip water throughout the day. If you're thirsty, your body is telling you that you are already dehydrated.

Move Early or Late

Schedule walks, errands, and yard work for the early mornings or evening. Stay inside as much as possible between 10am-6pm, when the sun is strongest.

Never Leave Anyone in a Car

Never leave kids, older adults, or pets inside a locked car. Vehicle temperatures climb dangerously in just minutes.

Keep Medications Cool

Insulin and many medications shouldn't sit in a hot car or sunny window.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency.

Confusion, fainting, seizure, loss of consciousness, chest pain, trouble breathing, persistent vomiting, or very high body temperature are signs of heat stroke.

Call or text 911 and go to the nearest ER.
