The Best Songs About Medicine
Generally speaking, there are very few things better than music. You can write a song about pretty much anything, love, sadness, excitement, anger…even medicine. There is a lot of lyrical ammunition that can be used within the medical field, from pills and powders to shots and antidotes.
Why dedicate songs to medicine? For one, the price our doctors pay to help us out deserves more recognition than we can give.
Entering the field of medicine can lead to a hefty amount of money needing to be paid towards education. How much education? Let’s break it down quickly:
• A four-year undergraduate degree
• Another four years of medical school
• A residency program that can span anywhere between an extra 3-8 years
• A specialty fellowship lasting another 1-3 years, although this section is optional
There is no wonder why medical debt is a leading cause of bankruptcy, becoming a doctor amounts to nearly 2 decades of medical bills.
However, when doctors save your life, the hefty price paid over these decades becomes completely worthwhile.
It is time to realize that, for better or for worse, we would not be where we are now without the help of doctors, medicine or the healthcare system.
So, let us send our praise out to all those healthcare heroes out there with a few incredible songs that can help pay tribute to their undying efforts.
“Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees

This song encapsulates what the entire point of the healthcare system is: to keep people alive. A fun fact about this musical hit from 1977 is that it has actually been used to train medical staff to administer the right number of chest compressions during CPR.
This song has 104 beats per minute, CPR requires between 100-120. So quite literally, this song has been helping stay alive for a few decades.
“Bad Case of Loving You” by Robert Palmer

Ever heard of the medically-the med talk show ‘The Doctors’? Well, this song was actually the opening theme song for the show. The 1979 hit tells the story of a man who is smitten by a woman who repeatedly betrays him. Though his love obsession has no cure he still goes about seeking medical help from a doctor.
“A Little Bit Longer” by Jonas Brothers

Living with an incurable illness is rough, and unless you have walked in the shoes of someone who suffers from one, you just would not understand the struggle. Some of us lived in this state for some time during 2020, thinking there would not be a cure to COVID-19.Thankfully, every medical professional’s efforts have led to us having a vaccine. Some of us, however, are not quite as lucky. Nick Jonas tells the story of his struggle with Type 1 diabetes, and the requisite patience of many who are waiting for a cure.
“Chemo Hero” by Dolly Parton

Although a child’s tune, this song is uplifting and motivational for anyone out there fighting cancer. The 2017 song was dedicated to the singer’s niece who battled (and won) five years of leukemia. There is no doubt that anyone battling cancer is a hero and deserves to be recognized.
All in all, there is nothing better than a good song. So, if you haven’t heard of these ones above, we suggest you hear them out or let us know which ones are your favorite on our Twitter account!
